New Jersey star calls U of L offer 'amazing'

Millburn (N.J.) High's Jake Pickard landed his first scholarship offer on Tuesday. Pickard, a member of the Class of 2015 and a tight end/defensive end prospect, picked up an offer from Louisville. He talks about the offer with Cardinal Authority.

Millburn, N.J., High School junior standout Jake Pickard has had a ton of college attention since last season.

But until Tuesday, the 6-foot-6, 220-pound Pickard didn't have a scholarship offer. And that changed when the University of Louisville extended a scholarship offer to Pickard.

"That was my first offer, and I thought it was amazing," Pickard told Cardinal Authority. "I'm really excited to meet the staff and get out and visit campus."

Pickard played offensive tackle last season for Millburn because his team needed blocking help but will move back to tight end this coming season. He's also played defensive end.

While U of L is his first offer, schools like Michigan, Penn State, Rutgers, Maryland, Colorado, Missouri, Boston College and Tennessee are keeping tabs on him. He visited Maryland for Junior Day and is expected to visit Temple and Colorado in the coming weeks.

Pickard said he was "thankful" for the first offer and said U of L offensive coordinator Garrick McGee is expected to visit him soon.

"I probably won't be able to get to (U of L) for a visit until the summer," he said. "But I want to see the campus."
