"After I track practice, I called the coaches and they asked me some questions like how I'm doing and just checking in," Eloph said. "They told me they had something for me - an offer.
"I talked with the offensive coordinator and the head coach, and I talked with Coach (Luke) Meadows and Coach (Derrick) LeBlanc. It feels good to get the offer, to know they believe in me and recognize my talent is good enough for their program. It always feels good to be wanted."
Eloph, who helped spark Parkway to the Class 5A finals in 2013, is a versatile big man.
"Southern Miss actually wants me as an athlete," he said. "For the offensive line and defensive line, too. They told me they watched my film and gave me some of their exact notes.
"They said I'm tall and athletic; that I have good feet and good length. They also told me my weight looks right, whereas most kids' weight is different than is listed. A lot of guys aren't as big as their listed size."
And the staff wasn't done heaping on the praise.
"They said I have great field awareness," Eloph added. "The coaches watched three full games and said I'm very consistent. The head coach (Todd Monken) checked out everything about me.
"He likes what I bring to the table as an athlete and loves my film, and said any time I come down they'll pull out the red carpet and treat me like family."
