Eagles Offer Stand-Out WR

Southern Miss is looking to have success in Louisiana for the class of 2015, and they are in on some early talent. 3 star WR Jaquel Gant talks about his offer from the Eagles and where they stand with him right now.

Rising senior (class of 2015) 3 star WR Jaquel Gant has picked up an offer from the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.

Even with the interest high for him in football, his mind is on other things right now.

"Right now I'm playing basketball and we just won a quarterfinal game and we are making a run for the state championship," Gant told GoldenEaglePride.com.

"I run track also in the fall just to keep me in shape and keep the competitive juices flowing."

Though he's not playing football right now, the 3 star WR is getting plenty of interest. His latest offer is from Southern Miss.

"The offer was a surprise to me," he explained.

"The coach followed me on twitter and I thought that was it. Then I got a message from them and my coach said Southern Miss has been asking a lot about me.

"Then the head coach called me and told me they loved my film, they love my character and they need someone like me on the outside as a receiver. I am going on a visit there on March 29th and I'm very excited to see the campus."

He currently holds three offers.

"I'm hearing from LSU, Clemson, Georgia, UCLA, USC, Tulane and Louisiana Tech," he detailed.

"I have offers to Louisiana Tech and Tulane in addition to now Southern Miss. I don't see myself going out to California.

"I just want to find a place where I feel at home and can call it my second home. I don't want to worry about thing just a place that I'll be well taken care of and find a family."

Gant's abilities are wide spread, including his ability to make plays in traffic and his break away speed.

"My strength is going up and getting the ball," he said.

"If my QB is in trouble he'll just put it up and he knows I'll come down with it. I'm working on looking the ball all the way in and making sure I've got it under control."

Gant ran a 4.47 at a recent combine, and runs the 200 in track, along with the 100 M relay.
