East Texas has gotten a lot of recruiting attention lately for its defensive backs. The past week was no different.
The biggest news of the week came Friday morning, when Nacogdoches 2015 cornerback Jaylon Lane committed to Ole Miss. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Lane, who also holds Louisiana Tech, South Alabama, and Houston offers, told Scout.com over the weekend that he had already developed a good relationship with Ole Miss linebackers coach/special teams coordinator Tom Allen. He also said he's the type of big, long cornerback head coach Hugh Freeze and his staff is looking for.
Lane, who picked up the Houston offer Sunday evening, is the fifth player in East Texas' 2015 class to make his commitment. Three players -- Gladewater five-star defensive tackle Daylon Mack, Sulphur Springs safety Larry Pryor, and Whitehouse safety Justin Dunning -- are committed to Texas A&M. Troup quarterback/athlete Blake Lynch is committed to Baylor.
Another week, another offer for Newton 2015 safety Roney Elam, who picked up an offer from Oklahoma on Thursday to give him his first eight offers in a two-week span. Elam got a fourth star with the mid-week release of the updated Texas Hot 100 state rankings by Scout.com, which placed him 40th in the state for the 2015 class.
The only 2016 East Texan with at least one FBS offer got his seventh offer Sunday. Nacogdoches safety Brandon Jones tweeted the news of an Oklahoma State offer, which makes him the fifth player in East Texas' 2015 and 2016 classes with an offer from the Cowboys.
A couple of notable offers just across the state line in Northwest Louisiana were Shreveport Woodlawn 2015 cornerback Henry Black's ULL offer Friday and Shreveport Calvary Baptist 2016 quarterback Shea Patterson's Auburn offer March 3. Patterson is committed to Arizona.
