Houston keeping tabs with the Irish
Five-star linebacker John Houston of Gardena (Calif.) Junipero Serra was offered by Notre Dame last fall when he received a couple of visits from Irish assistant Mike Denbrock. "Notre Dame is just a great program," Houston said. "The main thing there is the education that they offer. It's one of the best and would provide a lot of opportunities." Houston says contact with the staff is limited at this point, but he's still interested in learning more. "I'm really wide open at this point," Houston said. "I could see myself visiting Notre Dame down the line. I don't plan on deciding until next year, so we'll see what happens this summer and how recruitment goes." "I know that Notre Dame likes my hustle to the ball, instincts and how hard I hit," Houston said. "They haven't specified yet if they like me for inside linebacker or outside linebacker. Some schools are recruiting me as both." Houston has visited USC so far this spring for junior day, and he plans to see Oregon, though no date has been set yet. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound linebacker pointed to his leadership as one of his most redeeming qualities. "I'm a good leader, I lead by example," Houston said. "I love to hit people hard and I'm good in space. I'm versatile, I can play inside or outside." Houston listed three primary criteria for what he's looking for in a future school. "The academics must be up to par because when football ends I want to be able to put my degree to good use," Houston said. "I want to play for a good team, and I want a place that feels like home." Houston is a five-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 2 outside linebacker in the class of 2015.
