More than a dozen football prospects in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex received new offers during the past week, including two players who garnered three apiece.
Arlington Bowie 2015 offensive tackle Madison Akamnonu started the week with a Texas State offer before picking up Texas Tech on Wednesday and Arkansas State on Saturday to push his offer list to six schools. The 6-foot-5, 270-pound Akamnonu could become one of DFW's most popular targets in the coming weeks.
West Mesquite 2015 cornerback Josh Butler also received three offers to see his offer list grow into the mid-teens. The 5-foot-10, 163-pound Butler picked up offers from Louisiana Tech and Indiana on Wednesday before reigning Big Ten champion Michigan State offered him Thursday.
Here's a recap of the rest of the offers from the past week in the DFW Metroplex:
Malik Jefferson, 2015 OLB, Mesquite Poteet -- the latest big-time offer arrived Monday for Jefferson, a five-star talent ranked No. 1 in the state of Texas. Oregon joined the race for the nation's top linebacker prospect.
Tony Nicholson, 2015 ATH, South Grand Prairie -- San Diego State offered two South Grand Prairie prospects Tuesday. Nicholson, who plays quarterback for his high school team, could end up at receiver or cornerback at the nexxt level.
Jaelan Austin, 2015 WR, South Grand Prairie -- San Diego State also offered Austin, who wound up visiting the Aztecs at the end of the week. Austin has at least 14 offers at this point.
Chason Virgil, 2015 QB, West Mesquite -- after signing a West Mesquite product in February (Dylan Sumner-Gardner), Boise State offered the Wrangers' quarterback, who has a double-figure offer list from programs across the country.
Bailey Phillips, 2016 CB, West Mesquite -- as part of a very active week in Texas and its home state, Louisiana Tech offered Phillips on Wednesday to give the cornerback his fourth offer. The first three all came from the Pac-12.
