OLB Chad Smith Profile
Smith, a three-star prospect from Dominion High School in Sterling, Va., spoke with Scout.com Regional Recruiting Analyst Michael Clark on Thursday afternoon.
"I'm a Clemson Tiger," Smith said. "Clemson was just different -- they
were just unique. The people, the environment, atmosphere around the
university and the coaches are great.
"On my junior day visit, they treated me as if I was one of their own. I
knew as soon as I left that day Clemson is a place where I'd love to play.
It's just a blessing to have a chance to play there."
In addition to Clemson, Boston College, Duke, Illinois, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin offered.
The 6-foot-3, 202-pound prospect likes the state of the Clemson program.
"They're consistently in the top 10 and it's only going to get better," Smith said. "And I don't think they've reached their peak. I believe they're a team that's going to consistently contend for a national championship and one day they'll get there -- and that's
what I wanted to be a part of. Now that I've committed, I can definitely
call Clemson a home away from home."
Smith phoned in the pledge to Dabo Swinney.
"Coach Swinney has done a tremendous job at Clemson," he said. "He played a
big role in my decision. I can't say enough good things about coach Swinney
as a person. He's a great man. He's got his priorities in order -- God,
family and football. Also, him being able to always have his team in
contention for a national championships. Lately, they've been on a role.
And I'm just excited about having the opportunity to play for him."
Smith is firm with his decision.
"I'm done with recruiting," he said. "I'm 100 percent committed to Clemson
and they're 100 percent committed to me. This is the end of the recruiting
process for me. You only get to chose a school once, and I believe I made
the correct choice in choosing Clemson. I'm just excited to have the
opportunity to go down there and play and it's very humbling."
Commitment No. 2
