Ohio TE Visits Duke

Under the radar tight end Clayton Schmerber talks about a recent visit to Duke in our latest update.

After watching Centerville (Ohio) tight end Clayton Schmerber in a recent combine, Scout.com came away feeling he may be one of Ohio's more under the radar prospects. However, we feel that may soon change as schools get a chance to see the 6-foot-5, 215-pounder up close.

Duke recently got a surprise visit from the Ohio native.

"It was a little bit of a late notice, but I had a basketball tournament in Knoxville and with it only being four or five hours away, my coach was able to set something up," explained Schmerber. "I was able to look around campus and check things out and got a chance to talk with some of the coaches.

"I was able to talk with Coach (Zac) Roper who coaches the tight ends along with one of the offensive coordinators. I was able to get a tour and found Duke to be gorgeous."

What did the Blue Devils say about any interest they may have?

"Since I don't have a lot of film from last year they want me to go out and tape myself working out with my quarterback," explained Schmerber. "They then want me to send it to them so they can see what they think. After that they will tell me if they would like to see me in camp this summer."

No matter what happens next, Schmerber left the ACC program impressed.

"As I said, Duke is gorgeous and I like how things are not highly congested," he said. "I like a big campus, but Duke is like out in the middle of the woods and the buildings are gorgeous because the brick is so old.

"The dorm rooms are inside the old buildings and I thought that was cool because I thought they would be newer. The landscaping is also beautiful around campus."
