McGriff Talks Auburn Commitment

Tallahassee (Fla.) Leon High School quarterback/athlete D'Anfernee McGriff talks about committing to Auburn yesterday. The 6-foot-3 and 228-pound junior also had offers from Florida State, Florida, South Carolina and Alabama.

Tallahassee (Fla.) Leon High School quarterback/athlete prospect D'Anfernee McGriff committed to Auburn University yesterday afternoon. The 6-foot-2 and 228-pound junior has quickly become one of the most highly sought after prospects in Florida after rushing over 2,000 yards and throwing for 800 yards this past season. McGriff says he had the difficult decision of choosing between Auburn and Florida State but is excited about being a Tiger.

"The decision was a very hard decision. I want to thank God for all the schools that recruited and offered me. I am going to Auburn," said McGriff just minutes before he announced his decision publicly yesterday.

The talented athlete said at the end of the day Auburn felt like the best fit on the football field and off.

"I thought outside of football Auburn University would make me a better man. I kind of wanted to get away from home but also be close. Auburn is right down the road, they filled all my needs," said McGriff of Auburn being far enough away from home to have some independence but close enough to get home on short notice.

McGriff also likes how Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn plans to utilize him in Auburn's dynamic offense.

"They (the Auburn coaching staff) are saying they are going to line me up at wildcat, tailback and flex me out as a slot receiver. Basically they are saying that there are a lot of ways to get the ball in my hands with what they do offensively. Their offense fits my skill set best and just the relationship I have with the coaches and the players," explained McGriff who was recruited by Auburn wide receivers coach Dameyune Craig.

While excited about being committed to Auburn it was still hard telling the hometown Seminoles of his decision.

"Yes it was hard. First of all Florida State is an awesome and amazing program and I want to thank God for the opportunities that they offered me and thank Florida State for all they have done," said McGriff of FSU.
