It looks like the Arkansas football program will have a high school quarterback enrolling early for the second straight January.
Charleston junior quarterback and Razorback commit Ty Storey (6-3, 215) said Sunday night that he is on pace to graduate this December.
"We actually starting talking about it and planning for it when I committed (June 25, 2013)," Storey said. "I think it is going to be a great thing for me to get up there early, learn the playbook even better and go through spring practice."
Storey, who took in several Arkansas practices this spring, passed for 4,230 yards and 53 touchdowns last season while leading his team to a 15-0 record and Class 3A state title.
He is Scout.com's 11th-ranked quarterback nationally and chose Arkansas over Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Oklahoma State and Louisville among others.
After his football success, Storey was a key cog as his school's basketball team made it to the Class 3A state championship game and is currently hitting around .670 for the Tigers' baseball squad.
Those two coaches won't have him for next season.
"My coaches understand," said Storey, who played this season at 222, but is now at 215.
Storey will follow in the footsteps of current Razorback quarterback Rafe Peavey of Bolivar, Mo.
Peavey enrolled in January and went through spring practice and came out of it as the No. 3 quarterback.
"He said it has really helped him," Storey said. "I am excited about getting up there as soon as I can."
Arkansas is also hopeful of adding Pine Bluff tight end Will Gragg (6-4, 245), another mid-term enrollee who now has 36 offers.
Scout.com recruiting analyst Chad Simmons sums up Storey this way:
"Storey is an Arkansas kid and he is already on the Razorback commitment list," Simmons writes. "He plays out of the gun a lot and he sees the field well.
"He shows good anticipation, he throws a very catchable ball, and his has good feel for the position," Simmons adds. "He needs to improve his footwork and his mobility. His best ball is the deep ball down the sideline."
