Midlands Recruiting Mailbag (5/6/14)

Scout.com tackles questions in its weekly Midlands Recruiting Mailbag feature...

Q: Where there any quarterbacks from the Elite 11 that you have not really talked much about that you feel had a standout day?

A: He is still an underclassman, but I thought that Bladrick Veal had as good as a day as many who were in attendance. He is a big kid who is a bit different than the rest. he throws a lofty, high deep ball and is able to work well on the rollouts outside of the pocket. He looks super athletic and of he can hit the deep routes like I suspect that he can from what he showed at this event and the Houston NFTC then he could be one of the top recruited quarterbacks in the Southeast.

Q: Are there any prospects emerging this spring as top-rated caliber talents, or are in-line for a rankings bump?

A: A few three-star guys are really starting to emerge in the national spotlight. After playing tight end one year ago Coppell (Texas) High offensive lineman Connor Williams is up to 275 pounds and major offers are starting to fall out of the woodwork. TCU commit and South Oak Cliff (Texas) product J.F. Thomas has been all the rage and is catching on fire. Ohio State and Texas Tech offered after seeing him in person. he is a big-framed receiver with athleticism and moxy. In South Dakota keep an eye on Grant Schmidt, who also pulled down a Buckeye offer recently.

Q: Are there any schools in Oklahoma that could unseat Jenks or Union for the state title this upcoming season?

A: I hate to answer a question in the mailbag with a simple no. But I just do not see it happening this year. Jenks is returning a large contingent of its talent despite the fact it lost superstars like Steven Parker and Dylan Harding. I would lean to Broken Arrow as the most likely to upset the Jenks/Union dominance. It only fell 12 points short of the state game last season.

Q: I have noticed some of the sites on the network with a new design. Will this happen on all of the sites?

A: Yes. Scout is in the middle of refreshing all of its sites. There is a schedule for each site as they roll it out across the network. I believe that over the next 7-10 days, barring any setbacks, that we will have all the sites completed.
