The first offer for Mathews came two weeks ago from Alabama. To say the least, Mathews was excited by receiving his first offer from the Crimson Tide.
"My heart started jumping, I couldn't control it. I was real nervous," said a still beaming Mathews.
The versatile athlete got the attention of Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart in camp last summer.
"I went to some of the Alabama camps and I just had a connection with Coach Smart and some of the players," said Mathews who is being recruited as a safety by the Tide.
Mathews received his second offer earlier this week from South Florida and was just as fired-up about his first in-state offer.
"I felt the same way about the USF offer. It felt just like the first offer," said Mathews of the Bulls extending an offer.
The underclassman says he also hearing from a handful of FBS programs including; Kentucky, Michigan, Florida, Florida State, West Virginia and Louisville. Mathews believes his next offer may come from one of the aforementioned programs.
"I believe Kentucky is, I have been talking to Coach Ansley (Kentucky cornerbacks coach Derrick Ansley)," said Mathews of his next potential offer.
The sophomore was also quick to answer when asked if he had a favorite team.
"The Florida Gators. They (Florida offensive line coach Mike Summers) told me they are going to come back this spring to see me," answered Mathews on the team he has grown up cheering for and his communication with them.
