Quick Hitter: Johnson to 'soon' commit

One of the top high school programs in the country, Hoover (Ala.) High already has a pair of 2015 prospects on SEC commitment lists. Will No. 3 be added in May as well? Three-star Justin Johnson says he's close to a decision.

In late April, three-star defensive end Christian Bell got the ball rolling among Hoover (Ala.) High School football prospects in the class of 2015, giving a verbal commitment to Nick Saban and Alabama.

Just this week, Buccaneer linebacker Darrell Williams picked the other in-state SEC school, as Auburn added the four-star to its commitment list.

With a reputation for sending several prospects to college football's top programs, Hoover wide receiver Justin Johnson may be next on the list.

The program's trend is to have higher-level prospects make their decision prior to their senior season, and it seems to be holding up with the rising-senior class. Bell, Williams, Johnson and company have each talked about the scenario for some time.

"It's coming soon, really soon," Johnson said of his potential commitment. "I want to say next week, but I'm not for sure yet."

The Scout.com three-star wide receiver, at 6-foot-3, 192-pounds, has verbal scholarship offers from several programs, including Mississippi State, Kentucky, Arkansas State, Southern Miss, Western Kentucky and UAB. He is coming off of a season in which he helped lead the Bucs to a second-straight Class 6A crown, going undefeated in the process.

Johnson hauled in 35 passes for 611 yards and a half-dozen touchdowns as a junior, and he'll look to bring a vertical element to the field for one of three teams he'll soon select from.

"Mississippi State, Kentucky and UAB," he said of his finalists.

A fourth Hoover Buc in 2015 has SEC offers, as it looks like three-star running back Bradrick Shaw will be the last of the four to pull the trigger.
