Washington (D.C.) St. John's sophomore Devante Brooks is quickly emerging as a big time target in the 2016 class. The Cadets standout is only entering his fourth year of tackle football, but he is proving to be a fast study.
The 6-foot-6, 235-pound tight end picked up his first offer from Maryland during his sophomore season, and he has seen his recruitment take off during the spring evaluation period. During the past month, Brooks picked up offers from Nebraska, N.C. State, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, and Iowa, among others. Brooks picked up his latest verbal from Rutgers on Wednesday, to bring him up to nine total offers.
"It was great to get an offer from Rutgers," Brooks said. "I hope to learn more about the school later on in the future."
Brooks has never been to Rutgers, but now that he has the offer he may try to work a visit into his summer schedule. In the meantime, the fast-rising prospect already has several trips on tap for the month of June.
"I am going to the Maryland camp on June 1,Virginia Tech on June 8, and Ohio State on June 19," Brooks said. "I'm not sure about my Tennessee or Penn State camps yet."
