Vanderbilt re-offers 4-star tight end

David Edwards was waiting to hear from the new Vanderbilt coaching staff and this week he finally did. The 6-foot-6, 225-pound tight end prospect out of Downers Grove (Ill.) North High School was offered by coach James Franklin's staff last year after the Commodore camp, but was anxious to hear if the offer was still valid under Coach Mason. Edwards shared his good news with

"Coach David Kolulski came to my school on Thursday," Edwards said. "We talked for a little bit while he was there. That night he called me and said that he'd like to extend an offer. He said that he knew I spent some time around the old staff and asked me what I thought about the campus when I was there. I told him I loved it. I thought it was absolutely beautiful. Then he said they'd love to get me back down there and he was going to get me on the phone soon with Coach Mason.

"Vanderbilt's a great school. To receive an SEC offer is pretty awesome in itself. I know some of the staff who stayed like Tyler Barnes. They like me at tight end. They mentioned my athleticism, my ability to move in space, and think I'd be a good fit in their offense. He said that they'd have to teach me how to block which shouldn't be a problem."

Edwards hasn't been asked to do much blocking at Downers Grove North. He's the starting quarterback. Out of his seven offers, six of them have been at tight end. Only Iowa has offered Edwards at quarterback, but he said he doesn't have a burning desire to play signal caller in college and that won't factor into his decision.

"I'm looking at deciding on a school by the end of June," he added. "I want to start my senior year with it out of the way. I'm not going to come out with a top five or anything, I'm just going to visit every school that has offered me and then make a decision. I just want to go and make all of the visits so I can get a real feel for what life is like on campus. I'm going to base my decision on how comfortable I feel when I'm there with everything."

In addition to Vanderbilt and Iowa, Edwards also holds offers from Illinois, Indiana, Syracuse, Wisconsin, and his most recent, besides the Commodores' re-offer, is from Iowa State.
