Midlands Recruiting Mailbag (5/27/14)

Scout.com tackles questions in its weekly Midlands Recruiting Mailbag feature...

Q: There are many out there now selecting Oregon as the pick for Kyler Murray on Wednesday, will the best TXHSFB player be leaving the state to play his college ball?

A: I think Oregon presents a great situation for an incoming quarterback after Marcus Mariota is gone the doors are wide open, but still Texas A&M has been the long considered favorite for Murray and it's pretty hard to envision seeing him playing his college ball anywhere other than College Station, where his father also played. The competition will be fierce with Kenny Hill and Kyle Allen on roster, but Murray has come up playing against elite levels of it in high school and is a proven winner. I am guessing he stays in-state.

Q: What are your thoughts on new Baylor commitment Breckyn Hager?

A: At 6-foot-3, 210 pounds the latest Hager in the Hager lineage spends some time with his hand on the ground on the high school level, but will be playing linebacker likely in college. At the position he shows a good ability to come down hill and blow up plays and to put pressure on the quarterback. He has a good frame and plays hard play-to-play.

Q: Have any new top level type of prospects popped up on your radar screen this spring.

A: This time of year players emerge all of the time, but the one guy who I have run across in the soring that I think has the chacne to be special is McKinney North defensive end Justin Madubuike (2016). A 6-foot-3, 240 pounds he is well put together and has the size and frame colleges will love. he already has offers from schools such as Ole Miss and Baylor, so the talent is obviously there, but look for him to be a national name by the time the 2014 season ends.

Q: Who is your pick to qualify for the State 7v7 at the Mesquite SQT this weekend?

A: Well I did not hit on any of my selections last week at Frisco Liberty as Lake Dallas and Frisco Heritage qualified over Plano West and Coppell. Coppell was the favorite and did not make the final four.  The Mesquite tourney is stacked up (Mesquite, Garland Lakeview Centennail, Cedar Hill, Arlington Seguin, West Mesquite, Wilmer-Hutchins, Wylie, Rockwall, Mesquite Horn, Sulphur Springs, Mesquite Poteet, Plano, North Mesquite, Garland, Grapevine, DeSoto). I will go with Cedar Hill and Mesquite Horn as the qualifiers for state.
