N.C. linebacker talks Army

William A. Hough High School, located in the northern Charlotte suburb of Cornelius, N.C., just opened their doors in 2010, but are already producing top D-1 talent, The 2015 class already features four players committed to ACC and SEC schools. Now programs are focusing on Christian Young, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound inside linebacker, who now has six offers after a recent Army visit.

"Coach Bateman came by the school last Tuesday," Young told ArmySports.com. "We talked about the academic life at West Point and talked a lot about football. At the end of the conversation, he threw me an offer. He said they were intrigued by my instincts, that I play downhill, and that I'm a very physical hitter.

"I really like the offer. I'm from Rochester (N.Y.) originally and I'd be close to home. I've been watching Army football ever since I was 10 years old so it's a good feeling to have an offer from them."

Two of Young's teammates, Corey Bell and Carl Tucker Jr., have committed to UNC. Young has also been hearing overtures from UNC as well as Duke, N.C. State, East Carolina, and Wake Forest. He holds offers from Gardner-Webb, Elon, Mercer, South Carolina State, and Charleston Southern.

"I'm probably going to camp at all of the Carolina schools showing interest this summer," he said. "I'm actually going to Duke's this Sunday. Depending on how summer goes I want to make my decision by August 21st before my senior year starts. I want to go to a college program that will welcome me like family, one that my Mom and Dad both like, and has great academics. Of course, I want to play for a team that plays good football."

Young plays for one now. The Huskies are coming off a 10-2 season in 2013 and Young says this year's team is stacked with players like Bell, Tucker Jr., Van Smith, and Mark Fields.

A torn ACL kept Young from competing as a sophomore, but in his first year as a starter in 2013, he recorded 101 tackles, four sacks and two forced fumbles and was named first team All-Conference in 4A/5.
