While finishing up his own workout with his fellow Midland City (Ala.) Dale County Warriors, the 5-foot-11, 197-pound two-way talent was eager to share the news with BamaMag a day after camping at Alabama.
"I went from number 15 to number three on the running backs list, Coach [Burton] Burn is the man," Henderson said. "I worked out at DB first; I was a deer in the headlights. So Coach Burns took me with him, I went to the running backs meeting and then worked out. Coach Burns is that coach."
The UAB commitment did enough to impress several members of the coaching staff as a running back to the point that he was sent in to meet with head coach Nick Saban before heading home.
"I did great, it was fun and exciting for me to talk to Saban. He said that he was watching me and I'm a hell of a player. He thinks I can play at Alabama. It made me feel like I can play against Ray Lewis," he said laughing.
Henderson, who holds more than a dozen verbal scholarship offers despite his pledge status -- considered a soft one -- says his coach informed him of the big news.
"Madison Academy's running back (Kerryon Johnson) and some running back from a JUCO (Jovon Robinson) are ahead of me, I think," he said. "The ‘Bama coaches told Coach [Pate] Harrison (of Dale County) and showed him the board. He (Harrison) says this is my big break."
Henderson, who rushed for more than 2,000 yards for Dale County as a junior in 2013 en route to Class 3A Back of the Year honors, will also camp at Auburn and visit other schools on his list before making a final decision.
