Tipton Nets Pitt Offer

Apollo-Ridge (PA) receiver Tre Tipton wraps up a big week. After getting offered by Michigan State on Sunday, Tipton adds one from Pittsburgh on Friday.

Pittsburgh hosted 350 prospects at its first prospect camp in Friday.

One of those in attendance was Apollo-Ridge receiver Tre Tipton, who was one of the first to be offered.

While it was a pleasant surprise for Tipton, it shouldn't be considered a huge surprise, considering Tipton's previous contact with the staff, and the number of previous unofficial visits he's taken.

"It was pretty relaxing, just getting that offer, more than usual," Tipton said. "Coach (Paul) Chryst, he told me I got the offer, and that they wanted me in the program. I was very excited they felt that way about me."

Tipton said in addition to the offer, that made Friday a successful day, he credited the coaching staff, and the competition in attendance.

"I learned a lot, coach (Greg Lewis) really helped me out," Tipton added. "He showed me some things I could use for this upcoming season, some things that can help me out.

"The competition, that was the highlight right there. Everybody was pushing, competing. Nobody wanted to lose. There were a couple corners from Maryland that wanted to be the best they could possibly be, and they brought the best out of everybody."

Tipton is unsure of where his next camp visit will be. He expects to talk things over with his head coach, John Skiba, before deciding on what his next step is going to be.

As a junior in 2013, Tipton finished with 697 yards on 44 receptions, with 13 touchdown catches.
