Hughes gives the latest

WASHINGTON, N.C. -- Mike Hughes was the top overall performer at last Saturday's Shrine Bowl Combine. Following the event, the 2015 New Bern (N.C.) cornerback spoke with Scout.com about his recruitment, future and more.

"I have 15 offers," said Mike Hughes. "My last one was from Ohio State. It's pretty big. Hopefully, I can get up there to visit."

His most recent visit was to an in-state school.

"My last visit was to North Carolina for the basketball game against Duke," Hughes said. "They showed me a good time and they impressed me."

As of right now, he does not have any visits scheduled. However, Hughes has some in mind.

"I'm probably going to visit a few schools who haven't offered – LSU and Georgia," he said.

He hopes to trim his list of schools in a few months and knows a three that have a good chance to make the cut.

"This summer after I take some visits, I should be ready to cut my list down," Hughes said. "Hopefully towards the end of the summer, I'll be able to narrow my list down to five. I'd say South Carolina, North Carolina and Florida will probably make the list. That's probably it for right now."

When will he decide and what things will help him make his choice?

"I'm going to enroll early, so I'm either going to make my decision around the start of football season or right after," Hughes said. "The main factors are going to be how good my visits are, where I feel at home and a school with a good coaching staff."

At the combine, Hughes checked in at 5-foot-10 and 179 pounds. He finished with a 4.34-second 40-yard dash, 4.27-second 20-yard shuttle, 10-foot, 3-inch broad jump and bench pressed 185 pounds 25 times.
