Plano West SQT Recruiting Report

Scout was on hand to watch a couple of the games on Saturday as Plano West and Plano qualify for the state tournament in July...

Short But Sweet

While only getting to watch two rounds of games an it being and SAT day I never even got the chance to see Devin Duvernay make a reception in the seven-on-seven, but its saying something to be able to walk away impressed. He is lightning quick in and out of his breaks and explodes off the line as good as any receiver prospect we have seen in recent years. He reminds me a bit of a cross between Robert Woods and Thomas Johnson from Dallas Skyline, except I believe that he has better quickness and speed than either. He is as big or bigger than listed.

The Island

Staying at Sachse High Jared Mayden is another prospect who should be considered amongst the best at his position in the 2016 class.  He has a long frame and possesses tremendous size at the cornerback position. One thing that I like about Mayden is that he growing in to a leader on his defense. He is starting to make calls and help players be in the right positions. He is bigger, but has a great break on the ball and is able to stay in receiver's hip pockets.

A Phenom Rising

The more I see of McKinley Mitchell the more I like. Much like Mayden he is getting better and better with each rep. After missing his 2013 season with an ACL he has come in to his own. I look for him to be one of the most feared defenders in one of the toughest districts in the state. He has a great frame at around 6'3, 220 and is tremendous in coverage. He runs arounnd like safety, but has the size of a linebacker.
