Ferns Earns Ohio State Offer

Brendan Ferns was at Ohio State yesterday working out at camp in front of the Buckeye coaches, and he landed an offer with an impressive performance. The rising junior is one of Ohio's top 2016 prospects.

Nobody can say Brendan Ferns didn't earn the Ohio State offer he received Tuesday afternoon. Ferns, one of the top 2016 prospects in the Midwest, worked out in front of the entire Buckeye coaching staff and landed the offer from Urban Meyer.

The St. Clairsville (OH) prospect is on a recruiting roll, and he currently holds nearly 20 offers to date. Ferns was excited to hear the news from Meyer.

"I worked out in front of all the coaches, and it was kind of nerve wracking for a 16-year old," Ferns said with a laugh. "There were other campers watching with their parents, but I did really well. Coach (Luke) Fickell led the drills, and it lasted for around 20 minutes. I'm very comfortable with Coach Fickell and Coach (Chris) Ash, so it was fun working out for those guys."

"I had done these drills before, so I knew what they wanted me to do," he added. "They were looking to see if I could flip my hips, and these were drills I could name before they asked me to do it. Everything went good for me, and I thought I might be getting the offer."

Following the workout, Ferns was sitting in Meyer's office where the two of them spent time discussing how the Buckeyes see him as a player.

"My dad and I sat and talked with Coach Meyer for about five minutes when he said I had earned an offer," Ferns said. "It made me feel great and it's something I would describe as a cool moment. I grew up rooting for Ohio State, and all I could say to him was a simple thank you. This offer means a lot."

The offers have been pouring in at a rapid pace, and the past ten days have been pretty special for the rising junior linebacker.

"Getting Oklahoma and Ohio State within seven days is pretty special, and it's kind of hard to believe," he admitted. "Things are picking up and it's been crazy, but fun for me. I think I'm going to concentrate on basketball the few days with my school team, so I'm going to put recruiting aside for a while."

"I won't be making a decision anytime soon at all, but it will be before my senior season, not my junior season," Ferns stressed.
