Coleman goes Irish

Kettering (Ohio) Archbishop Alter cornerback Nick Coleman discuses his Irish pledge at length.

Notre Dame picked up its second commitment in two days when three-star cornerback Nick Coleman of Kettering (Ohio) Archbishop Alter pledged to the Irish after taking an official visit to campus.

"It feels great," Coleman said. "I'm really happy. Probably relieved is the biggest emotion right now."

Coleman chose Notre Dame over finalists Duke and Michigan State and strong interest from Ohio State.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound cornerback was offered by Notre Dame on May 30.

"I knew last night (Wednesday) that I wanted to commit to Notre Dame," Coleman said. "We were going leave last night, but my parents and I decided to stay, so we could tell the coaches that I was committing this morning."

For Coleman, Notre Dame's strongest selling points were easy to decipher.

"It was a combination, obviously, of academics and athletics," Coleman said. "And, they play on a national stage every week and have genuine, good people at Notre Dame."

Coleman also called Notre Dame's facilities "first class," and spoke on his relationship with the coaching staff.

"Coach (Mike) Elston was my main recruiter, but I really like all the coaches," Coleman said. "Coach (Brian) VanGorder, Coach (Brian) Kelly, Coach (Kerry) Cooks and the linebackers coach (Bob Elliott), too."

"They were all jumping up and down and laughing after I committed."

Coleman knew a commitment was looming, but he wasn't sure where he was going to pledge until yesterday.

"I knew I wanted to commit by the end of this week," Coleman said. "Spots were filling up. I just didn't know for sure it was going to be Notre Dame."

Coleman plays running back and cornerback in high school.

"I have really good length," Coleman said. "I'm quick, and I'm aggressive. I actually play more running back than corner in high school."

Coleman says its a possibility he returns to campus on June 20 for Irish Invasion.
