Huskers host Thompson

There were a number of 2016 prospects in Lincoln for Big Red Weekend. One of the players was quarterback Skylar Thompson from Independence (Mo.) Fort Osage.

Skylar Thompson from Independence (Mo.) Fort Osage is one of the best quarterbacks in the Midlands region for 2016. The 6-foot-2.5 and 175-pound Thompson got to Big Red Weekend in Lincoln a little late today, but got a chance to see everything.

"We had team camp all week," Thompson said. "We got up here to Nebraska about 4:00 this afternoon. We got a chance to see the facilities, met with Coach Tim Beck, Joe Ganz and John Garrison.

"We got a chance to see the locker room, weight room, stadium and indoor facility. I worked out for the coaches, watched some film and sat and talked with them for a while."

Thompson felt good about the workout today with the Nebraska coaches. He said that the workout consisted of things that Nebraska does with their offense and position drills.

"I felt like I threw the ball real well today. They had me do some things that they do with their offense as well as some drills that they do with their quarterbacks. I thought that I performed well."

Thompson isn't holding a Nebraska offer and he didn't pick up one up, yet. The Huskers are clearly interested and said as much to Thompson when they sat down to talk about things today.

"No, I don't have offer," Thompson said. "They told me that I am high on their list. Basically they said that they are waiting for the right time to extend the offer to me."

First visits to Lincoln catch a lot of recruits off-guard. Thompson has a pretty good idea what to expect on the visit still he said that his expectations were exceeded by what he saw.

"This was my first time to Lincoln and I knew that they were crazy about football, had a great program and great facilities. I got more than that I expected though on the visit."
