McGowan Staying In-State

Hallandale (Fla.) running back Taj McGowan committed to UCF and George O'Leary.

UCF should reap the recruiting rewards this year with the season they had in 2013. Certainly the Knights have picked up the recruiting pace. They recently landed one of the top running back prospects in the state in Hallandale (Fla.) standout Taj McGowan.

"UCF is getting an all-around great kid," said Dameon Jones, Hallandale's coach. "He's a great football player and he's great in the classroom. Taj carries a 3.7 [grade point average] and he's a high character kid who loves the game of football. Taj is a gamer."

McGowan, now 6-foot-1, 190-pounds, is an every down back that can do a little bit of everything.

"I tell everybody that this kid is a grown man on the field," Jones said. "He's fast and he's physical."

According to Jones UCF beat out Illinois and Cincinnati for McGowan. He also had scholarship offers from FAU, FIU, Temple and South Florida.
