Busy summer for Williams

Marcus Williams had a good sophomore season. Not surprisingly, the 2016 Pinetops (N.C.) Southwest Edgecombe running back is attracting interest from multiple college coaching staffs.

"Duke, ECU, North Carolina, NC State, Clemson, Wake Forest and Charlotte are recruiting me," said Marcus Williams. "I think Duke, ECU or Charlotte could be the first school to offer. All three have mentioned it."

His most recent trip was to an in-state school.

"I went to Duke a few weeks ago for their camp," said the 5-foot-10, 175-pound Williams. "It was great. I got to take a tour of the campus, learn about the academics at the school and meet the coaches. It's definitely a good school."

In regards the rest of the summer, Williams will head to camps at East Carolina, North Carolina and NC State.

Although he is enjoying the recruiting process, Williams' main focus is on the upcoming season.

"We are expecting to have a big year," he said. "We have and older team and we should be great. I should also get more carries since I'm running some wildcat on offense."

He has high goals for his junior campaign.

"We want to dominate every play," Williams said. "We also want to win the conference and make a long run in the playoffs."

Last season, Williams finished with 75 carries for 781 yards and 11 touchdowns and 11 catches for 260 yards and two touchdowns.
