Recruiting Insider: QB's

With 10 commits already in the fold for the 2015 class, InsideRunnerSports is giving you an inside look at how the recruiting numbers are playing out position by position.

What a difference one recruiting cycle makes! This time last year UTSA had one commit in QB Blake Bogenschutz. Many in RunnerNation were weary of the nuances in recruiting a small class.

We're heading into the last week of June and the Coaching Staff has more QB commits than it did total commits last June. This class is obviously being recruited with a much wider net and having to replace 34 scholarshiped seniors is no easy task for a program at any level. Hands down, it's that much tougher when you've only logged three playing seasons in your programs history.

Over the next couple of weeks our staff is going to breakdown the commits already on board, what other targets remain at the position, other potential prospects to keep an eye on, and has that position filled up or are more recruits being sought after. With all 10 current commits slotted to line up on offense, we'll start there.

Quarterbacks (2)

Manny Harris and Jaylon Henderson

Both fit the dual threat mode that's used in the UTSA balanced spread offense. Harris led the state in passing yards his junior year with nearly 3800 and totaling 38 TD's. On the other end of the spectrum Henderson ran for 1200 yards and threw for 1600, just shy of 20 touchdowns.

Both are athletes and have that leadership intangible that Head Coach Larry Coker and Offensive Coordinator Kevin Brown wants from their QB's. Harris committed the first week of May while Henderson said yes just this past week.

UTSA wanted two quarterbacks from the get go for the '15 cycle. As one anonymous source told IRS, they got their guys and are moving forward.

"We had five guys at the top of our board (Key, Harris, Dormady, Banks, and Henderson). The offers went out a few weeks a part from each other. We tell them we're only talking so many and whoever commits to us, we commit to them," said the anonymous source.

For all intents and purposes, the staff will be shutting it down at the QB spot. As the same source told us, you can never say you're 100% done at any spot because you never know what's going to happen before signing day, but if nothing changes, they're done.
