UCLA has been heavily recruiting T.J. Simmons and it could pay off in a big way this week. The 2015 running back heads to California Tuesday for a visit and if all goes well, he could commit to the program.
"This is going to be my first time at UCLA. I'm going with (Ray Ray McCloud). Me and him are going to go out there and visit and I'm staying for a couple nights, he's staying for a little longer, but I'm going for a couple of nights to see if I feel at home and hopefully make my decision," Simmons said.
"I want to see a good atmosphere, I want to see a place where, when I step on campus, I feel at home. Also, good academics, great players around me as well."
The 5-foot-11, 186-pound running back says there are many things he likes about the UCLA program.
"Everything (has my attention), the atmosphere, the coaches, I feel like I could really be at home out there and I feel like I could make an impact as a freshman," he said. He's also spent plenty of time talking to running backs coach Kennedy Polamalu, quarterbacks coach Taylor Mazzone, and head coach Jim Mora.
"I'm pretty much in contact with the whole coaching staff," Simmons said.
"(They like my) leadership, also, being a guy from Florida, that has a lot to do with is as well. Florida speed and California speed are a lot different."
The Gators have also been recruiting the Sunshine State standout and getting him out of Florida would be big for the Bruins. If all goes well on the visit, Simmons could see himself committing shortly after, or even on the visit if he can't wait that long.
