There are a handful of big questions heading into The Opening. It begins next Tuesday in Beavertown, Oregon.
The state of Florida leads the way with 27 selections. There are 162 participants in all. Here are ten story lines from the Sunshine state leading into the event.
3. How will George Campbell do?
Tarpon Springs (Fla.) East Lake standout George Campbell is an enigma. He's got great size at 6-foot-4. Campbell can absolutely fly. He's versatile and extremely athletic. There's not much a can't do as a football player.
But he is inconsistent in terms of catching the football. Campbell will make the spectacular grab on one play and drop a no-brainer on the next. That' been his M.O. since he burst on the scene as a sophomore.
I don't want it to seem like I am crushing Campbell. I really like this kid and he would be a sure fire offer for me as an athlete. It's just a little maddening because at times this kid shows ridiculous ball skills. And he's size/speed combination is unreal.
But there are many the question is long term upside as a wide receiver because of his erratic hands. Certainly he has the size, physical tools and mental makeup to be a superior safety, both short and long term. Last summer at The Opening he was one of two juniors (safety Derwin James the other) to participate amongst the rising seniors in the Class of 2014 and Campbell had a terrific week in Oregon.
Can Campbell have a repeat performance of last July out west and solidify himself as one of the elite wide receivers in this class?
Here are highlights from Campbell's performance at the IMG Nationals late last month.
