Simmons down to 10

Recently, Jahvoni Simmons narrowed his list to ten schools. The 2015 four-star Virginia Beach (Va.) Ocean Lakes middle linebacker gave the latest.

Jahvoni Simmons is down to ten schools.

The 6-foot-1, 237-pound Simmons has trimmed his list to Alabama, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami, NC State, Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin.

"It felt really good to cut my list down," he said. "Now, I can focus on the schools that I feel actually want me and that I'm interested in. But it was definitely hard. I cut about 12 to 13 schools"

Simmons gave a quick thought on each.

Alabama:"They always have a winning program and they're always going to compete for a national championship," he said. "I also like (outside linebacker) coach (Lance) Thompson."

Clemson: "I like coach (Dabo) Swinney and (defensive coordinator) coach (Brent) Venables a lot. They remind me of my coach at Ocean Lakes. With Clemson, it's just something I can't explain. I just really like them."

Georgia Tech: "(Wide receivers) coach (Al) Preston has been recruiting me since 10th grade. He's definitely trying to get me down there because he said I'd definitely fall in love with the campus."

Miami: "(Tight ends) coach (Larry) Scott is a cool guy and I love the way their linebackers play. I also like the city of Miami."

NC State: "(Cornerbacks) coach (George) Barlow is recruiting me and I'm probably the No.1 linebacker on their board. They're the school that's the most interested in me."

Ohio State: "(Wide receivers) coach (Zach) Smith is a great guy and I also like (linebackers) coach (Luke) Fickell. I really like the program, too."

Oregon: "Who wouldn't like Oregon? Also, (linebackers) coach (Don) Pellum is recruiting me and we have a good relationship, and he's a great guy."

Tennessee: "When I visited, I really clicked with (Wide receivers) coach (Zach) Azzanni, who is my recruiting coach, and (linebackers) coach (Tommy) Thigpen."

Virginia: "UVa is Uva. They're struggling right now, but I definitely feel at home there. I feel like I can be just as comfortable there as I am at my high school."

Wisconsin: "(Wide receivers) coach (Chris) Beatty used to coach in this area and used to coach my cousin. He's a great coach and we get along well."

What's next for the Ocean Lakes standout?

"I'm going to try to shoot down to Georgia Tech, Miami, Alabama, Tennessee and probably Clemson soon," Simmons said. "After that, I'm going to try to cut my list to five before the season."

Although he is not ready to name any favorites, Simmons knows two schools that will make his top five.

"NC State and Clemson will definitely make my top five," he said. "Those schools are showing me the most interest and I have really good relationships with the coaches at those two schools."

He has an idea of when he would like to make his college choice.

"I'm probably either going to make my decision on homecoming or senior night," Simmons said. "It's going to come down to education, how comfortable my family and I are at the school, and how comfortable I am with the coaches. The opportunity to play early and how I feel about the school outside of football will also be important."
