The Opening: Previewing Juwan Johnson

Scout.com is profiling each member from the East Region heading to The Opening next week at Nike's headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, and in this installment we look at Penn State four-star receiver commit Juwan Johnson.

Juwan Johnson

Position: Receiver
Team: Vapor Carbon
Ht.: 6-5 Wt.: 210
High school: Glassboro (N.J.) High

Recruiting Situation: Johnson had a number of offers, and trimmed his list to Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Boston College in early March. His plan was to make all his visits in the fall, and then make a late decision. However, a March 16 trip to Penn State changed those plans, and he became a center piece for the Nittany Lions' impressive 2015 class.

Scouting Report: Johnson is a big receiver with good length and above average hands. He moves quickly for a player his size, shields defenders well and has good ball skills. He comes out of breaks well and his physical. He has good explosiveness and will go over the middle and is a threat down the field. Becoming more consistent is the biggest thing for Johnson.

At Stake: Johnson is largely under appreciated because he didn't do many combines or camps, but even with a sore hamstring he performed well at the NFTC in North Jersey to earn his invite to The Opening. Johnson will have a captive audience as he speaks with fellow New Jerseyan and Penn State commit Brandon Wimbush, the quarterback who recently visited Stanford. Johnson could also make a name for himself on a national level with a strong showing.
