Position: Running back
Team: Vapor Carbon
Ht.: 5-11 Wt.: 210
High school: Whitehall (Pa.) High
Recruiting Situation: Barkley was first uncovered by Rutgers last spring, and he gave a commitment to the Scarlet Knights prior to his junior season. However, it didn't last as once Penn State hired James Franklin as its coach, he finished off the 2014 class and quickly moved to flip Barkley. That happened Feb. 19, and Barkley has been content with the decision.
Scouting Report: Barkley is a natural runner, can run between the tackles, has speed to get to the outside, knows how to set up blocks, can accelerate through the hole and has elusiveness. Barkley has the ability to get yards after contact, an elusiveness to avoid defenders at the line of scrimmage and he can catch the ball out of the backfield. He is an instinctual player, but needs to work on his blocking skills.
At Stake: The Opening 2014 isn't built for running backs to stand out, but he can showcase his skills and get his name out more. Barkley is a tremendous player, but he didn't get his name out on the recruiting scene because of his early commitment to Rutgers, and then his flip to Penn State. This will give him a chance to make other say, ‘Wow,' and fully understand the talent the Nittany Lions are getting.
