The Opening: Previewing Adam McLean

Scout.com is profiling each member from the East Region heading to The Opening next week at Nike's headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, and in this installment we look at Penn State four-star defensive tackle commit Adam McLean.

Adam McLean

Position: Defensive tackle
Team: Alpha Pro
Ht.: 6-2 Wt.: 280
High school: Gaithersburg (Md.) Quince Orchard

Recruiting Situation: McLean held more than three dozen offers, and committed to Penn State on April 13, although it was not planned. He just had a feeling, and he hasn't wavered. McLean is solid with the Nittany Lions.

Scouting Report: Getting up the field at the snap of the ball is what McLean does best, and that is not a knock on his other attributes. His explosion and strength are tremendous, and he plays with a low pad level and high energy. He has different moves, be it speed, a bull rush or a rip, and gets in the backfield in a heartbeat. He wins at the point of attack and can stuff the middle

At Stake: McLean will get to show off his explosive first step and raw power. He dominated during the April NFTC and earned the trip to The Opening 2014 with the performance. He is the No. 13 defensive tackle in the class, and he could make a move up the list a bit more and possible serve notice he should be in the Scout 100. Also, it will give him time to speak with other recruits, and to make sure he keeps in the ear of Penn State quarterback commit Brandon Wimbush, who recently visited Stanford.
