The Opening: Previewing Lawrence Cager

Scout.com is profiling each member from the East Region heading to The Opening next week at Nike's headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, and in this installment we look at uncommitted Baltimore Calvert Hall receiver Lawrence Cager.

Lawrence Cager

Position: Receiver
Team: Fly Rush
Ht.: 6-5, Wt.: 185
High school: Baltimore Calvert Hall

Recruiting Situation: Cager is willing to camp at a number of places in July in hopes of earning offers before making a decision. His offer list includes Rutgers, Maryland, Wake Forest, Illinois and Oregon State, but he hoping to extend his portfolio before getting down to the nitty gritty. He has visits set to Ohio State, Notre Dame, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and Virginia Tech, and plans on camping at each school. Miami is also showing strong interest but are yet to offer.

Scouting Report: Cager is long and lean. He has good speed – he ran a 4.62 at his school recently – and knows how to use his size. He has good hands and ball skills and moves into and out of breaks well. His recruitment was slowed dramatically in the fall when he suffered a concussion and missed a lot of the season.

At Stake: Cager can build some serious momentum as he hits the road in July for camps and to work out for schools. He did well at the NFTC in North Jersey in late April to earn the invitation The Opening 2014, which came as a surprise. With the event being broadcast, it means coaches will get a look at him before he gets on their campus, and could set him up for a big July.
