West Recruiting Notebook

  • San Leandro (Calif.) cornerback Stephen Johnson committed to UCLA over Arizona State, California, Oregon and Washington.
  • Bothell (Wash.) quarterback Ross Bowers committed to Cal over Colorado State on Tuesday night. It's the fourth straight year Cal has had an Elite 11 finalist.
  • Pleasanton (Calif.) Foothill cornerback Isaiah Langley committed to USC over Cal, Oregon and UCLA.
  • Newhall (Calif.) Hart receiver Trent Irwin is down to Arizona State and Stanford. Irwin said he's hoping to decide by the end of August. He's graduating early from Hart. Irwin said he may visit both his two finalists before making his final decision.
  • Phoenix (Ariz.) Pinnacle quarterback Brian Lewerke committed to Michigan State in the spring and said Mike Weber is his primary target this week he's recruiting.
  • Salem Hills (Utah) linebacker Porter Gustin said he plans to cut his list in the next couple of weeks. Gustin said that USC, UCLA, Arizona State, Florida State, Washington, Notre Dame and Ohio State are likely to make the list and more could be added.
  • Newhall (Calif.) Hart quarterback Brady White committed to Arizona State in the spring and said this week he's working on his prep teammate Irwin to join him in Tempe as well as Christian Kirk and Soso Jamabo.
  • Encino (Calif.) Crespi safety Marvell Tell said he's narrowed down his list internally but will come out with a list before the end of the summer. The two local schools, USC and UCLA will definitely make it, while Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Notre Dame will all likely make the list.
  • Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco quarterback Josh Rosen, a UCLA verbal, said he's targeted Cordell Broadus and Christian Kirk this week for his recruiting efforts and said the Bruins could be getting a couple of offensive linemen to commit soon.
  • Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde quarterback Sheriron Jones, a Florida commit, said with the slew of Florida targets from the Southeast, he's going to start on some of them, but his focus this week is to get to know the current Florida verbals.
  • Corona (Calif.) Santiago quarterback Blake Barnett, like Jones, an SEC commit, Barnett headed to Alabama, said he wants to use the week to get to know the Southern prospects committed to Alabama that he hasn't had a chance to meet.
