The Opening: Daron Payne

Daron Payne is focused on four schools and he is nowhere near a decision. He is taking his time...

"My decision will be after football," said Daron Payne. "There is no chance I commit this summer."

Payne is taking his time with the recruiting process, but he has narrowed his focus to four schools.

Alabama and Auburn of course for the star out of Irondale (Ala.) Shades Valley along with Florida State and Texas are the schools on Payne's list.

That list is likely to stay the same.

"It will be one of those schools when I commit. I have been to Alabama and Auburn a lot and I hope to visit Texas later this summer, then FSU during the season.

I talk to coaches from all the schools, but Alabama is the one I talk to the most. Alabama and Auburn are recruiting me the hardest right now."

The 6-foot-3, 340 pound five-star defensive tackle will likely commit very early in 2014. Between now and then he will gather his thoughts, continue to take visits, and find the right school.

"I will probably commit at the Under Armour All-America game," said Payne. "I do not have a leader right now -- I am still trying to find the right school.

"After the season I will focus more on recruiting. I just do not think much about it right now. I talk to coaches and all that, but I am not sure where I am going yet."

Payne is the No. 5 defensive tackle and the No. 23 overall prospect on Scout.
