The Opening: Simmons Day Two Notebook

Here are some recruiting notes on top prospects out of the South from The Opening...

  • Scout 100 athlete Torrance Gibson will camp at Ohio State at the end of this month, but Auburn and Tennessee are still the top two. LSU is still a school high on his list and Miami is still in the race as well. A decision likely mid-fall.

  • Georgia commit Rico McGraw is a solid with his commitment, but he has not closed the door completely yet. Alabama and Tennessee are still involved in the race, but he feels good about his decision at this time. He grew up a fan of the Dawgs and it actively recruiting prospects to join him in Athens, Ga.

  • Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln wide receiver John Burt named Texas his leader on Wednesday. The Longhorns will have the four-star on their campus later this month for a multi-day visit. He has family connections to UT. Auburn is currently his No. 2 school. A decision could come as early as the summer or as late as after the season.

  • Chuma Edoga is still strong to USC. The Scout 100 offensive tackle out of Powder Springs (Ga.) may visit other schools officially, Georgia in particular, but his commitment to the Trojans is currently strong.

  • Auburn and Ole Miss lead for Javon Patterson. The four-star offensive guard out of Mississippi has a top five, but those are his top two. He has visited Ole Miss this summer and he hopes to visit Auburn.

  • Jerry Tillery is going to take an official visit to LSU. He may take an unofficial visit to Baton Rouge, La. later this summer, but he will not participate in their camp. His commitment is still solid to the Notre Dame Irish, but he is still listening to other schools, LSU in particular.

  • Scout 100 linebacker Roquan Smith is going to cut his list down in the near future. He has about seven or eight favorites right now, but he plans to go to four or five later this summer. Florida, Georgia, and UCLA have locked up spots in his top group already.

  • Five-star George Campbell (Pictured) has really laid low this week at The Opening. Florida is still viewed as the favorite, but he does not plan on talking too much about it. He has slowed it down even with college coaches too. Campbell plans to take the recruiting process late into the process.
