Nixa (MO) three-star running back Alec Murphy is getting closer to his college decision. He had trips planned during the month of June but was not able to make them. He shares the latest.
"Everything is going great," he said about his recruitment. "I wasn't able to take the visits to Iowa or Iowa State the last few weeks. I've just been doing more research on schools, talking to my coach, and talking with my family. We've narrowed things down to a top four as I've figured out more about schools."
Murphy told Scout what four schools made his cut.
"My top four is Iowa, Purdue, Mississippi State, and Michigan," he noted. "I will be going down to Mississippi State two weekends from now. We are traveling down to that area and will stop at the campus. I'm trying to make plans to visit the other schools but it's easier to make it to Mississippi State right now."
Murphy spoke about all four schools still in the mix.
Mississippi State: "I like the people there. I like the environment. I have a lot of family and friends there. It's comfortable there. I try not to let it factor in my recruitment but it's a part of what I like about it."
Iowa: "The coaches have been there so long. They know what they're doing. I had a chance to work with them and enjoyed it. I like the program and how they run the ball a lot there."
Purdue: "They're quality people there. I love the coaching staff. They're genuine people. Their program looks like a place that I could fit in well at. I have a better chance of playing early there as a freshman."
Michigan: "They haven't offered me, yet. An offer could come at some point. They've had a lot of interest in me. I'm hoping they possibly offer because they are a great program."
A summer decision is not out of the question for Murphy.
"I'm thinking about making my decision over the summer," he pointed out. "I'm not real sure yet. If I find the right place before the season then I will make my commitment."
