Manvel 2015 three-star cornerback William Lockett holds nine offers, but has a few schools on that list that have his attention the most.
"I really like UCLA. That's my most recent visit," said Lockett, who trekked to the West Coast about three weeks ago. "I really like UCLA, Missouri, Texas, U-Dub (Washington), Michigan State. I'm just keeping my options open.
"UCLA was really nice. The whole environment, the whole scenery. Everything was really nice. The trip was good. I was close (to committing), but I wasn't ready to make that decision just yet. I'm not trying to rush."
Of the five schools Lockett listed, Texas is the only one that has yet to offer him.
The 5-foot-11, 165-pound Lockett confirmed that he will attend the "Under the Lights" camp in Austin on Friday night.
"I just want to get to know the coaches," Lockett said. "The only coach I really talk to is coach Bedford (defensive coordinator Vance Bedford). I just want to get to talk to coach (Charlie) Strong, meet the whole coaching staff and everything, see what they're telling me. Growing up I was a Texas fan.
Beyond the Friday camp at Texas, Lockett has only one other summer trip planned.
"I plan on going to LSU on July 24," he said. "For now that's the only thing I've got on my schedule."
As for fall official visits, Lockett said UCLA right now is the "only one that is for sure" one that he will make.
UCLA hosts Oregon on Oct. 11, while the Bruins host USC on Nov. 22.
Lockett is part of a loaded Manvel squad that reached the big-school semifinals Saturday at the Adidas Texas 7v7 Championships at College Station's Veterans Park and Athletic Complex.
Manvel, which has a wealth of offensive talent, should have a loaded back seven this fall. In addition to Lockett, the Mavericks boast 2016 four-star safety Deontay Anderson, 2016 linebacker Jordan Carmouche, 2015 linebacker Collin Scott, and 2017 safety Derrick Tucker, one of the most impressive sophomores-to-be that we saw this past weekend in College Station.
