The Opening: Jerry Tillery

Notre Dame was the childhood favorite for Jerry Tillery and the Scout 300 offensive tackle is still strong to the Irish, but he is not ruling out other visits...

Jerry Tillery made an early decision.

The 6-foot-6, 317 pound offensive tackle out f Shreveport (La.) Evangel Christian grew up dreaming of playing for Notre Dame and once he had the offer, he committed to the Irish before his junior season.

He still feels good about that decision.

"I am definitely still committed to Notre Dame," said Tillery. "I stay in contact with Coach [Harry] Hiestand (Offensive line) through social media and over the phone. We have a good relationship.

"It was an easy decision for me because Notre Dame is Notre Dame. It is a school I have always liked, so it feels good to be committed there.

"I was up there June 20 and I got to hang out with the coaches, players, students, and it was great. Notre Dame it what I expected it to be growing up -- pretty amazing."

As expected with someone like Tillery, schools have not give up on the four-star. He still hears from multiple schools, but the one closest to home is the one he hears from the most.

"LSU is definitely the school on the me the most that is not Notre Dame. I hear a good bit from them and I will see what they are doing."

An official visit to Notre Dame is a definite, but could there be others? Odds are in favor right now of the in-state Tigers getting one too.

"I am probably going to take an official visit to LSU," said Tillery. "They are a school in my home state, they run a strong offense, and I will give them a look.

"Notre Dame is the school I am a strong commit to though. I will listen to LSU, Texas A&M, and other schools that recruit me, but my commitment to Notre Dame is still good."
