2016 Scout 300 DB Adds Auburn Offer

2016 DB JoeJuan Williams added an offer from Auburn following an impressive camp performance.

Already a four-star prospect and a member of the Scout 300 for the 2016 class, big defensive back JoeJuan Williams from Father Ryan in Nashville, Tenn. was impressive at Saturday’s Auburn 2016 Elite Camp. That turned into an offer from Gus Malzahn on company early Sunday morning.

“It was great,” Williams said of the experience. “I loved it. I loved the energy the coaches have, especially Coach Malzahn. It was awesome.

“I love the energy and fire they have, especially as a coaching staff,” he added about his newest offer. “They’re not chill at all. They amp up from where Coach Malzahn turned things all around. It’s great how he did that and worked that out.”

That energy was evident during the one-on-one drills when Malzahn was right in the middle of the action. Taking the lead role and calling out the players he wanted to see go head-to-head, Malzahn called Williams’ name several times and it was a thrill for the young defensive back to be recognized.

“I felt special,” Williams said. “It felt great. I loved it. I just felt kind of special being one of those guys he hand-picked to be out there. I have to do what I have to do.”

Working with Coach Melvin Smith at the cornerback position during the camp but also versatile enough to play safety on the next level, Williams said one of the things that stands out about the Tigers is the coaching staff.

“He’s a great coach,” Williams said of Smith. “He’s coached a lot of great DB’s and he’s sent a lot to the NFL. His fire is amazing. He’s great. He’s like Coach Malzahn. He gets hype and runs around everywhere. He’s old but still running around. It’s cool.”

With offers from Alabama, Louisville, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Penn State and several others already, Williams should be one of the most heavily-recruited players in the country for 2016.
