Lockhart Picks Texas A&M
James Lockhart, a 6-foot-3, 250-pound defensive end from Ennis (Texas) High announced om Friday that he would be playing for Texas A&M in college. He had announced a top six, but, many thought and with accuracy, that the battle came down to Texas A&M and Alabama. "I had it narrowed down between A&M and Alabama," Lockhart explained. "I told A&M about a week, maybe two weeks ago. I love A&M. I am so, so happy with my decision." "I knew my sophomore year that it was the school for me, I felt it from the inside. I just wanted to weigh out my options and visit." There was a stiff recruiting battle forming, but after Alabama filled up at defensive end Lockhart, was able to move his schedule forward and end the process right away. "Everything did work out for a reason. It is a blessing and everything that happened, happened for a reason." "For the next four years I am going to be a Texas Fighting Aggie and I could not be happier." Lockhart informed the coaches of his decision before his unofficial visit to the campus a couple weekends back. "Coach (David) Beaty -- when I talked to him they were on vacation -- but anyway when I talked to coach Beaty and told him he started hollering and it was pretty exciting. We kept talking throughout the week and we worked out a date for a visit." After that he took his family to campus and sealed the deal with the head man. "We worked out a date that following week for a visit and what I wanted to do, for me whenever I wanted to commit I wanted my family with me." "Me, my mom, my dad and my sister went to College Station and we told Coach (Kevin) Sumlin that it was where I was going and where I wanted to be." Lockhart, a Scout four-star, is rated as the No. 10 defensive end and the No. 77 prospect overall in the Scout Top 100. John Garcia contributed to this report
