Mettenberger Ready To Forget Bar Incident

Mettenberger says this is not the first time he has heard "Roll Tide" in public.

Zach Mettenberger would just as soon forget the whole thing. Unfortunately for the rookie quarterback, the media that gathered by his locker following today's practice had other ideas.

Last week Mettenberger and fellow rookie Taylor Lewan during a night out stopped in Loser's Most Wanted Bar and Grill here in Nashville. While in the establishment, a man believed to be a fan of the University of Alabama approached the duo and yelled to Mettenberger "Roll Tide." Mettenberger responded "Good luck with that," and was then sucker-punched by an second man, who then ran from the establishment. He was caught by bouncers outside the business.

“Even being in college, too, that's just how the world is. With social media and ESPN, everyone knows who we are and we've really got to be careful when we do have a night out and just be smart,” Mettenberger said. “It's never fun to get punched in the face, but you've got to take the high road in some situations. As much media attention as it got, it could have been a lot worse.”

“I'm kind of an old school type person. I don't want to drag it out and be more of a distraction to the team,” Mettenberger continued “It got plenty of notoriety in the media, so just let it happen and put it in the past.”

Mettenberger was not injured in the incident and refused to press charges.

For Mettenberger, who was kicked off the University of Georgia football team in 2010, and later pled guilty to two misdemeanor charges of sexual battery, and Lewan who is currently awaiting an Oct. 28 court date of his own charged with one count of misdemeanor aggravated assault and two counts of assault and battery stemming for his alleged involvement in a fight following last years Michigan-Ohio State game, hopefully this will be a wake up call.

Ruston Webster and Ken Whisenhunt certainly hope so!
