“Texas. Yeah, I’m still kind of interested in Texas. I’m a Texas boy, you know Texas schools. Texas is a big part of that.”
The Longhorns are still hanging in there, but Akamnonu also has a top three.
“I came out with my top three. It’s Missouri, Tech and Oklahoma.”
The four-star prospect claimed all three are fighting for his services, adding he does not have a front runner. Akamnonu has set a commitment date of Aug. 24.
At 6-foot-6, 280 pounds, Akamnonu, rated as the No. 20 offensive tackle in the nation by Scout.com, has trimmed his list down considerably from over 20 offers.
Akamnonu said if he visits the South Plains again it would be for an official visit, but probably not before then.
“Lubbock’s already in a good state in my mind. They’re in a good position and if I were to go back up to Lubbock, to me, it wouldn’t help my decision.”
If Akamnonu does take an official visit to Lubbock, he plans on doing so the weekend of the Texas Tech-Oklahoma game. He does not have current plans to visit any of the other three campuses, but has his sights set on the Texas-Oklahoma game in Dallas.
