Jacksonville (Fla.) Atlantic Coast High School class of 2015 tight end prospect Chris Cunningham is set to announce his commitment this Friday. The 6-foot-3 and 225-pound rising senior has received over 20 offers since January but will ultimately decide between Virginia Tech, UCF and Louisville. Cunningham made an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech this week as part of another step in the decision making process.
”It was a nice trip up there. It was a really nice school. With the coaches being there for 15 or 20 years and all sticking together through the ups-and-downs, that is pretty promising. They are in my top three as far as committing on Friday. Overall it was a really nice trip, I really liked it a lot,” said Cunningham of the Hokies and his visit.
Cunningham has been impressed with UCF’s recent success on the field and likes its close proximity to home.
”UCF wasn’t really on the radar until this past season. They said they would use me as a tight end/H-back, move me around a lot and be versatile with my size and speed, creating mismatches against the defense. They are on my list because they aren’t too far from home,” Cunningham explained.
Like with UCF, Cunningham says Louisville’s recent run of success on the field has them in his final three.
”With Louisville it is basically they have been pretty strong in all sports especially football and basketball. Basically I see them being a strong team the way they have played the last couple of years, only losing like three games in the last two or three years. They have a promising program on the come-up right now,” Cunningham said.
The athletic pass-catcher also said he is committing early to secure a spot with one of three programs before someone else commits. He says that the atmosphere around the campus and in the local community at each school has been impressive to him. Cunningham also thinks he can get a quality education at either of three institutions and that is the reason he is going to college.
”I want to get a great degree so that when my playing days are done I can go back and do something with my education,” finished Cunningham.
