Scout knew it would be a busy week in the South with about half a dozen prospects having decision dates set this week.
Almost double that amount committed on Tuesday in a seven hour span. It was a crazy Tuesday with stories breaking all afternoon.
It got started with three-star running back Mon Denson committing to South Carolina. He was offered at the Showcase Saturday in Columbia, S.C. and it only took him a few days to act on that offer. To learn more about Denson and the Gamecocks, check out Gamecock Pride.
It moved up to North Carolina after that. Scout expected UNC to get some bad news (You will read more on this below) late in the afternoon Tuesday, but before that happened it got some good news. Scout300 running back Ty'Son Williams picked the Tar Heels and may have surprised a few people with that. Nobody covers UNC like Inside Carolina, so make sure you check their site out.
Staying in the ACC -- Miami picked up two commitments Tuesday and both are from in-state offensive linemen. Brendan Loftus and Tyree St. Louis gave the Hurricanes their verbal commitment Tuesday afternoon. Both are ranked as three-star tackles on Scout, St. Louis being a little higher ranked. Both could play other positions, so learn more about them, the 2015 class, and the UM program at Canes Time.
The flip many saw coming happened -- Around 5pm ET Tuesday Ronnie Harrison made it official -- Alabama it was. Harrison, a four-star safety out of Tallahassee, Fla. had been committed to North Carolina for over a year, but he visited Alabama twice this summer and officially switched his commitment to the Crimson Tide Tuesday. Bama Mag has this story fully covered, so you want to check out their coverage. The Alabama class has put a gap between itself and Texas A&M atop the Scout Team Rankings.
At Florida Friday for Friday Night Lights was Neptune Beach (Fla.) Fletcher wide receiver Kalif Jackson. He was there without an offer. A couple of days later, Florida offered -- On Tuesday Jackson visited and then committed to the Gators. The 6-foot-4, 200 pound wideout is being recruited as a hybrid by UF. He will give the Gators a weapon in the redzone immediately and you can learn more on the new commit from the Florida experts at Fightin' Gators.
Jackson was not the only prospect to commit to an in-state school Tuesday. TaQuon Marshall did the same. The athlete out of Hamilton (Ga.) Harris County committed to Georgia Tech. Marshall's commitment gives the Yellow Jackets 18 for the class of 2015 and you can get in-depth coverage at The Hive.
Wisconsin loves to recruit the Sunshine State, especially South Florida and it got another one from that part of the state Tuesday. Gulliver Prep is a school that has a long list of prospects and linebacker Dominic Sheppard gave the Badgers his commitment Tuesday. Sheppard is the third Florida prospect to choose the Badgers and you can read in detail about their current class at Badger Nation.
It looked to be only a matter of time for Trey Derouen and Mississippi State. The Peach State interior offensive lineman is now a Bulldog and Gene's Page provides the best Bulldog coverage of recruiting and all MSU sports in this industry. The Bulldogs are one of the hottest schools in the country when it comes to recruiting right now, so you want to check out Gene's Page.
FIU may have gotten a real sleeper to cap off the Crazy Tuesday. Defensive tackle Richard Desir-Jones committed to the Panthers and he could be a good one. He plays at Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas, one of the top high school programs in the country, so he will be prepared to compete. To learn more about the FIU class, click here.
