WHAT TO LIKE
Speed…Thomas brings speed you can’t teach having been timed in the forty at multiple camps with a best of 4.33 at Ohio State and in the 4.4 to 4.5 range in several others. But Thomas has more than just pure speed; he’s also shown explosiveness posting great numbers in the broad jump and vertical jump testing.
WHAT IS A CONCERN
The biggest question surrounding Thomas will be his ability to move from running back to defensive back. While there is still a chance he could find his way to offense as a slot receiver, the majority of his offers and interest came as a cornerback. We feel while raw in his skill set, the tools are there as he’s shown in competitive camp settings to be able to make the move. But he is a work in progress.
Every offer Thomas received came from attending camps and showing coaches he had the skill set to move over to defense. While he’s got technique work to do in coverage, his overall athletic ability will give him a chance to compete. Miami recruited a player much like Thomas in the 2013 recruiting class in Heath Harding who earned a starting position as a cornerback as a true freshman. While we feel Harding was a little more advanced in his coverage skills, Thomas could see early playing time on special teams and have a legit chance of working his way on the depth chart in year two of his career. With his speed and competitive nature, Thomas is a player on a mission to achieve success and proved that over the past several months attending double digit camps.
The following are HUDL highlights of Thomas.
