Texas A&M continues its impressive efforts in the East Texas region.
Friday afternoon produced the Aggies' second pledge for the 2016 cycle and it came from East Texas. Scout.com confirmed the commitment of Athens cornerback Travon Fuller to the Aggies, who already have three East Texans committed for their 2015 class, which is ranked No. 2 nationally behind Alabama.
Texas A&M is the only offer so far for the 6-foot, 155-pound Fuller, but we expect that to change.
Scout has already rated Fuller as a four-star prospect and ranked him No. 13 at his position and No. 156 overall nationally in the 2016 class. Fuller joins Allen (Texas) offensive tackle Greg Little, a five-star prospect and the state's No. 1 recruit in his class, as the Aggies' 2016 commitments.
Fuller had a breakout sophomore season in 2013, when he helped Athens to an undefeated regular season, district championship, and 10-1 record.
Fuller was a playmaker on both sides of the ball, but especially on defense, where he recorded 53 tackles, seven interceptions, one forced fumble, and four field-goal blocks. He also blocked or altered 17 extra-point tries and scored twice in the return game.
Playing receiver in a run-heavy offense, Fuller caught 15 passes for 305 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing 15 times for 108 yards and two scores.
Fuller is ranked at No. 28 in the state's 2016 class by Scout, which also ranks him third among the state's cornerbacks for that cycle behind fellow four-star prospects Jared Mayden of Sachse and Jaylon Jones of Allen.
As mentioned above, Fuller gives Texas A&M its fourth East Texas pledge in the 2015-16 classes. Gladewater five-star defensive tackle Daylon Mack, Sulphur Springs safety Larry Pryor, and Whitehouse safety Justin Dunning are the Aggies' trio of East Texans in the 2015 class.
Texas A&M remains active recruiting Gilmer 2015 four-star cornerback Kris Boyd and will undoubtedly target more 2016 prospects from the region. Nacogdoches four-star safety Brandon Jones already has a Texas A&M offer and may be seriously considering the Aggies, while Tyler John Tyler four-star defensive tackle Braylon Jones and Carthage three-star tight end Marquise Guinn could eventually see offers.
