Taylor will trim list soon

Darrell Taylor is getting closer to making his college decision. The 2015 four-star Hopewell (Va.) defensive spoke with Scout.com about the latest developments in his recruitment.

Last spring, Darrell Taylor narrowed his list of potential schools to Florida, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia Tech – in no particular order.

”It’s still about the same, but I’m going to cut it down within the next few weeks to five,” said the 6-foot-4, 227-pound Taylor. “I’m not sure which schools will make that list yet.”

Over the summer, Taylor said he has had the most consistent contact with Tennessee, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Florida, Miami and Ohio State.

Taylor’s most recent visit was to Tennessee for their Orange Carpet Day.

”It was my first time there and I liked it a lot,” he said. “It was pretty nice. My favorite part was getting to talk to the coaches and players. I also got to see the campus, which I liked. It’s pretty big. I definitely want to go back and visit.”

While on campus, he was able to sit down one-on-one with head coach Butch Jones.

”He told I’d be good player for them,” Taylor said. “We talked about how they want their players to be good on and off the field. Then we talked a lot about academics and the football program in general.”

After he names a top five, Taylor plans to take an official to each school. He mentioned South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida as schools who will likely get official visits.

He plans to make his decision sometime during the season and certain factors will help him make his choice.

“The main factors are going to be a place where I can get a great education, feel comfortable and can play big-time college football,” Taylor said.
