Christian Rector has been a strong USC lean for some time. In fact, we thought he might actually commit earlier in the spring but the athlete said he wanted to take his time and make sure he wasn't making an emotional decision.
"I was ready to do it tonight and I'm thrilled to be a Trojan," Rector said moments ago while driving home from campus. "I talked with my family and my coaches and I told him I wanted to commit and they gave me their blessing. They said if you feel ready, go ahead and do it and I knew I was ready.
"USC has everything I was looking for, not just football wise but more so off the field. The connections you make at USC and the alumni support can set you up for life. I know you can't play football forever so a degree from USC and the networking you can do was really what put them over the top."
From a football standpoint, Rector said he loves how he fits in.
"They want me as an outside linebacker in a pass rush role," Rector said. "They run multiple fronts but I think they're base will be a 3-4. They like my ability to rush the passer and play in space so it's really good fit for me scheme wise.
"I love the coaching staff as well. Coach Wilson was my primary recruiter and he's a great guy. He's the one I first approached after practice and told him I was ready to commit. Then we went over and met with Coach Sark and I told him I wanted to commit. They were both really excited for me and I definitely am as well."
Rector was hoping he could make his decision before school starts but didn't want to rush it.
"I really took my time with this," Rector said. "I thought about it a lot and didn't want to make a quick decision. I really liked Vanderbilt a lot too because of their academics but USC was just too good to pass up.
"Location played a role, I wanted my family to be able to see me play. I definitely feel a weight off my back now. I can just focus on my upcoming season and not worry about recruiting. I'm rock solid in my decision, I won't be taking any other visits. My commitment is 100% firm and like I said, it feels great to be a Trojan."
